This is one of the conclusions reached by the APEC economies during the second day of sessions of the CEO Seminar on “Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Preparedness and Response” being held in Lima.

Each of the economies loses thousands of dollars every time a disaster occurs in the region; however, this loss can be avoided if coordination mechanisms were created in association with the private sector and if APEC economies’ technical capacities were identified- particularly those related to technology, training, and material and human resources management.

Other inputs made to the strategy were the promotion of mutual assistance in responding an emergency, as well as the promotion of policies based on successful experiences of the member economies.

According to the consulting team in charge of the project, the second day of the CEO seminar was a long but certainly satisfactory working journey since the inputs made by the economies were highly valuable and will give added-value to the strategy when incorporated.
